Routine Foot Treatment
What Is a Routine Foot Treatment?
A routine foot treatment is a clinical appointment designed to maintain, improve, and protect your foot health through conservative, preventative, and palliative care. The foot is a remarkably complex structure, containing 33 bones, 214 ligaments, and 38 muscles, all working in concert to support your body through every step of the day. When any part of this system is compromised by a skin, nail, or soft tissue complaint, the effects can ripple through your entire lower limb and beyond.
At West Bridgford Podiatry, routine foot treatments are carried out by degree-qualified and HCPC-registered Podiatrists alongside our experienced Foot Health Practitioners. Every member of our clinical team brings skill, warmth, and a genuine commitment to your wellbeing.
Conditions We Treat
Our routine foot treatment service covers a wide range of common issues, including:
- Toenail cutting, including thickened, curved, or difficult-to-reach nails
- Fungal nail infections (onychomycosis): discolouration, thickening, and brittleness of the nail plate. See our Fungal Nail Infections condition page for more detail.
- Corns and callus (hard skin): painful concentrations of thickened skin caused by repeated pressure or friction. See our Corn and Callus condition page.
- Cracked heels: dry, fissured skin around the heel that can become painful and prone to infection
- Verrucae (plantar warts): viral skin growths caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. See our Verruca condition page.
- Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis): a fungal skin infection affecting the feet, particularly between the toes
- Diabetic foot care: neurovascular assessments and specialist monitoring for patients with diabetes
- General foot health education and self-care advice
If you are experiencing joint or muscle pain associated with your feet, ankles, or the way you walk, a Biomechanical Assessment is likely to be the more appropriate starting point. Our team will advise you accordingly.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
If you are visiting West Bridgford Podiatry for the first time, your clinician will begin by taking a thorough medical history. This step is not a formality: it allows us to tailor every aspect of your treatment and ensures that all advice we provide is specific to your health profile. If you are currently taking prescribed medication, please bring a list to your first appointment.
Once your history has been recorded, your clinician will ask about your current concerns before treatment begins. All appropriate treatment will be carried out within the same appointment, and you will leave with both your feet feeling better and a clear understanding of how to care for them between visits.
For new patients, the initial appointment lasts up to 45 minutes. Follow-up appointments are typically up to 30 minutes.
Evidence and Clinical Standards
All treatment at West Bridgford Podiatry is delivered in accordance with NICE guidelines and the standards set by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Our clinicians use aseptic techniques throughout every appointment, and all instruments are sterilised using high-specification autoclave equipment. Infection control is embedded into every aspect of how we work, not treated as an afterthought.
Our practice management system is safe and secure, ensuring that your personal and medical records are protected at all times in accordance with UK GDPR requirements.

Faqs
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GP referral to book a routine foot treatment?
No. You can book directly with West Bridgford Podiatry without a GP referral. Simply contact us by phone on 01159 820800 to arrange a convenient appointment.
How often should I have a routine foot treatment?
This depends on your individual foot health needs. Many patients benefit from appointments every six to eight weeks, though those with diabetes or complex nail conditions may require more frequent visits. Your clinician will recommend a schedule that suits your circumstances.
Will my treatment be painful?
Routine foot treatments are generally very comfortable. Procedures such as nail cutting, corn removal, and callus debridement are carried out with precision instruments and cause minimal discomfort for the vast majority of patients.
Can I claim routine foot treatment through my private health insurance?
Please verify your policy covers podiatry before booking and let us know your insurer when arranging your appointment.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Please wear or bring open-toed footwear or socks and shoes that can be removed easily. Avoid applying heavy creams or nail varnish to the feet immediately before your visit, as this can make clinical assessment more difficult.
Is the clinic accessible for patients with limited mobility?
Yes, we have wheelchair access via the ramp. Our clinic at 7 Musters Road benefits from free on-site parking at the front and rear of the building. Please contact us ahead of your appointment if you have specific accessibility requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Do you offer home visits?
Unfortunately not but we can recommend a few practitioners who are able to help.
