Reflexology
In the midst of a busy and demanding life, finding genuine rest and deep relaxation can feel like a luxury. Reflexology is a time-honoured complementary therapy that works by applying precise, targeted pressure to specific points on the feet, each of which is understood to correspond to an organ, system, or structure within the body. At West Bridgford Podiatry, our experienced reflexologist Zoe Foster offers professional 45-minute reflexology sessions in a calm, welcoming environment, helping patients across Nottingham and the surrounding area to ease stress, reduce tension, and support their overall sense of wellbeing.
Reflexology
What Is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that specific points on the feet correspond to different organs, glands, and systems within the body. By applying controlled, purposeful pressure to these reflex points, a reflexologist aims to promote relaxation, support circulation, and encourage the body’s own natural self-healing mechanisms.
It is important to understand that reflexology is a complementary therapy, not a medical treatment. It is not intended to diagnose or treat specific medical conditions, but rather to support general health and wellbeing, provide a space for deep relaxation, and reduce the physical and emotional effects of stress.
What Can Reflexology Support?
Reflexology is commonly sought by people looking for complementary support with:
- Stress reduction and daily stress management
- General relaxation and improved sleep quality
- Feelings of anxiety and persistent tension
- Low energy and generalised fatigue
- Headaches and tension-related discomfort
- Digestive discomfort associated with stress responses
- Hormonal fluctuations and associated symptoms
- General sense of wellbeing and self-care as part of a balanced lifestyle
What to Expect at Your Session
Your reflexology session at West Bridgford Podiatry begins with a brief but thorough consultation. Zoe will ask about your current health, any medical conditions, and what you are hoping to gain from the session. This review is important both for your safety and for ensuring the session is tailored to your individual needs.
Following the consultation, you will be made comfortable in a reclining position. Zoe will then use her hands to apply precise pressure to specific reflex points across your feet. Minimal or no oil or lotion is used, as reflexology requires close, precise contact with the skin. The session is not a traditional foot massage: the techniques are deliberate and purposeful, designed to stimulate specific reflex zones throughout the foot.
Each session lasts 45 minutes in total. Many patients find the experience deeply relaxing, and a sense of calm and restored energy following treatment is frequently reported.
Is Reflexology Safe?
Reflexology is a gentle and safe therapy for the majority of people. However, there are some circumstances in which it may require modification or may not be appropriate, including during the first trimester of pregnancy, or where certain health conditions are present. Zoe will review your health history during the consultation stage and discuss any relevant considerations with you before proceeding.

Faqs
Frequently Asked Questions
Is reflexology the same as a foot massage?
No. A foot massage is a general technique aimed at relaxing the muscles of the foot. Reflexology applies precise, targeted pressure to specific reflex points understood to correspond to different areas of the body. The techniques, intent, and framework are distinct from those of a conventional massage.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on what you are seeking from the therapy. Some patients attend a single session for relaxation, whilst others find that a regular course of treatments better supports their ongoing wellbeing. Zoe will discuss the most appropriate approach for you at your consultation.
Can reflexology help with anxiety?
Many patients report a meaningful reduction in feelings of stress and anxiety following their sessions. Whilst reflexology is not a clinical treatment for anxiety disorders, it can be a helpful complementary support alongside other wellbeing approaches.
Is reflexology suitable during pregnancy?
Reflexology requires particular care during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. Please inform Zoe if you are pregnant before booking so she can discuss whether and how the treatment can be safely adapted for your stage of pregnancy.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You will remove your shoes and socks for the treatment. No further preparation is required.
