Do I need to see a GP first ?
Patients may self-refer to us. GP referrals are also welcome.
Some insurance policies require that you are referred by a doctor, please check with your insurance provider. Some also insist you use their own affiliated practices only.
There are local NHS podiatry teams which your GP may refer you to.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Are you registered with insurance companies?
We are able to provide you with a detailed receipt so you can forward this to your insurance companies. We do not deal with them directly ourselves.
What happens if I am a new patient?
If you are attending our clinic for the first time the Clinician will ask you questions relating to your health and medication. It is important for us to have a detailed medical history so that any treatment provided is appropriate for your health status. Please bring your most recent prescription if applicable so that our records are up to date and accurate.
Once a medical history has been taken the clinician will carry out a thorough assessment and discuss treatment options with you.
We aim to carry out some treatment if applicable during this appointment.
A Neurovascular Assessment is also carried out which involves the clinician using an instrument called a Doppler. A Doppler uses sound waves to help diagnose many conditions such as poorly functioning valves in your leg veins. This is a non-invasive procedure.
The clinician will also test for any loss of protective sensation of the foot using an instrument called a Monofilament. This is particularly important for patients that suffer certain conditions such as diabetes. Again this is a non-invasive procedure.
Finally the clinician will discuss your results and your treatment and recommend a suitable self care routine and advise when to book a return appointment if applicable.
What are your opening times?
Do you examine children at your clinic?
Yes. Children often have verrucas or may require orthotics to improve their gait and posture.
Should I stop taking medication before a Podiatry treatment?
No, never change or stop taking medication unless advised to do so by your GP
What if I need Anesthetic?
If you are attending for nail surgery as a result of an ingrown toenail you will receive a local anesthetic into the toe. If you require nail surgery this is carried out after a pre operation assessment with your Podiatrist, not usually on the same day. In this pre operation appointment the risks and benefits of nail surgery will be outlined and you will be required to give written consent, this includes receiving a local anesthetic.
After receiving a local anesthetic into one of your toes you will not be insured to drive home and so you will have to arrange transport home following nail surgery.
How long does an appointment last?
This depends on the type of appointment you have booked. A New Patient Assessment and Treatment appointment can last up to 45 minutes. Most Routine Treatments are 30 minutes long as are Verruca Treatment appointments. Nail Surgery times can vary but we would allow 60 minutes as a minimum for this type of appointment. Biomechanical Assessments are 60 minutes long.
How many sessions will I need?
The first session includes an initial assessment and treatment. If you require routine chiropody it is likely that ongoing treatments would be recommended as hard skin, corns and nails continue to grow. Nail surgery in almost all cases provides a long term cure for ingrowing nails and as such once healing has been established no further sessions are required.
For Biomechanical assessment the aim would be to devise a treatment plan that does not require regular follow up. However if you need follow up assessment or modification of the treatment plan to help cure your pain or injury this will be made available.

What is the difference between Podiatrist, Chiropodist and Foot Health Practitioner?
Podiatrist is the newer internationally recognised term for those who perform podiatry/chiropody and are trained to a degree level. Podiatrists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and their titles are protected by law. Professionals are qualified and insured and treat, diagnosis and prevent conditions of the lower limb including the use of surgery, orthotics, biomechanics and some specialise in certain areas such as sports, paediatrics, vascular, and acute diabetic care.
Foot Health Practitioners (FHP) are qualified and insured professionals who carry out all the essential foot health maintenance treatments including corns, callus, diabetic foot care, nail cutting, general foot care, verrucas, fungal infections and athletes foot to name a few. Certain other treatments they can carry out under the prescription of a Podiatrist.
What are your fees?
Our fees reflect the quality of service, expertise, training and professionalism.
With increased costs regarding compulsory ongoing training, waste disposal, sterilisation and of course routine running of the building it has become increasingly expensive to practise therefore we have had to set fees to take this into account.

If you have health insurance we ask you liaise with the provider yourself. We can provide you with detailed receipts. Some companies insist you use their affiliated practices so it is worth checking with them first before making an appointment. Our Podiatrists are HCPC registered.
